Breastfeeding Without Tears

Sandy Prantl OTR/L

About Me

Thank you for visiting my page! I am an occupational and craniosacral therapist; and clinical anatomist, with over 30 years experience working with infants. Although my specialty is breastfeeding families, I also work with bottle fed infants. I have developed intervention techniques based in classic occupational therapy principles, integrated with Upledger craniosacral therapy, and clinical anatomy. This integrative approach is  designed to facilitate a functional oral motor patterns and a nurturing, satisfying feeding experience for families.

About

What I Do

Unfortunately, too often, families face challenges that interfere with the breastfeeding process. In particular, tethered oral tissues, commonly referred to as lip, tongue and cheek ties interfere with a child's ability to latch on the breast or effectively suck from a bottle. This is where I can help.  I provide classic occupational therapy techniques combined with Craniosacral therapy to help facilitate infant feeding.

Breastfeeding mothers may experience pain while feeding their baby, and sometimes, a baby using compensatory oral motor strategies, fatigues before being full. This can create a vicious cycle of a baby who is never full and satisfied, screaming with hunger, and a mother who is filled with anxiety and guilt. With my services we can remedy the underlying causes of this negative downward spiral.
